Our Story
Sustainabite Fresh Farms began with a simple question: Why does Canada, with its vast resources, still import most of its basil and herbs — especially in winter?
After moving to British Columbia, we saw firsthand how imported herbs lose taste, nutrition, and shelf life during long transport. With a background in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, our founder built a container-based vertical farm in Surrey, BC, using engineered hydroponic systems, efficient climate control, and pesticide-free growing methods.
Today, Sustainabite supplies 30+ stores across BC, selling out weekly. Our basil lasts 1–2 weeks compared to 2–3 days for imports, offering retailers and consumers a fresh, reliable local option.
Our mission is clear: build Canada's most efficient vertical farms, strengthen food security, and do it sustainably.
Proven Traction
Profitable from Day One
Our first unit demonstrates strong, repeatable economics with positive cash flow from initial operations, proving our business model works.
30+ Retail Partners
We've built strong relationships with grocery stores across British Columbia, consistently selling out our fresh basil inventory every week.
Superior Product
Our locally-grown basil maintains peak freshness for 1-2 weeks versus just 2-3 days for imported alternatives, dramatically reducing waste.
Local Advantage
By growing in Surrey, we provide a reliable, pesticide-free supply chain that's resilient to global disruptions and transportation challenges.
What Makes Us Different
60% Less Energy Use
Our proprietary systems dramatically reduce electricity consumption compared to standard vertical farms, making our operation more profitable and sustainable.
95% Less Water Use
Advanced hydroponic technology recirculates water, conserving this precious resource while delivering nutrient-rich growing conditions.
Guaranteed Sales Model
We've pioneered a retailer-friendly approach where stores only pay for what sells, reducing waste and aligning our success with theirs.
Modular & Scalable
Our container design enables predictable, capital-efficient growth with each new unit delivering consistent yields and ROI.
Carbon Innovation
We're developing in-house CO₂ capture technology to create truly carbon-negative farming, setting new standards for sustainability.
Expansion Vision
We are raising $1.3M to add 7 new containers, scaling to a total of 9 farms in Surrey.
Phase 1
Add 7 containers to meet current demand from existing retail partners who are requesting more product than we can supply.
Phase 2
Replicate our proven model across British Columbia with strategic sites in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, creating regional growing hubs.
Phase 3
Expand beyond basil into other high-value herbs and leafy greens, leveraging our established retail relationships and distribution channels.
Our growth is driven by real market demand — retailers are requesting more product than we can currently supply.
Our Impact
Sustainabite is addressing critical challenges in Canada's food system:
Food Security
We provide year-round, local supply regardless of season or climate, reducing Canada's dependence on imported produce.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
By eliminating thousands of food miles, we dramatically decrease the environmental impact of getting fresh herbs to Canadian tables.
Sustainable Jobs
Our operations create skilled agricultural roles in urban areas, with 1 worker managing approximately 2 containers efficiently.
Community Health
We deliver fresher, nutrient-dense, pesticide-free produce to Canadian consumers, supporting better nutrition and wellbeing.
Investment Opportunity
We are currently raising a $1.3M seed round to fund expansion, strengthen our team, and support working capital.
With proven profitability, strong unit economics, and a capital-efficient scaling model, Sustainabite offers investors a rare opportunity to participate in the future of sustainable, local food production in Canada.
