Our Story
Sustainabite was founded to solve a clear market inefficiency: Canada imports most of its fresh herbs year-round, despite having the resources to grow them locally.
After moving to British Columbia, our founder—an Agricultural and Environmental Engineer—designed and built a modular container-based vertical farm in Surrey, BC. The system uses engineered hydroponics, efficient climate control, and pesticide-free methods to produce basil with significantly longer shelf life than imports.
Today, Sustainabite is an approved supplier to Pattison Food Group, serving 30+ retail locations including Save-On-Foods and Choices Market. Our basil lasts 1–2 weeks compared to 2–3 days for imports, and we sell out weekly.
We're building Canada's most capital-efficient vertical farms—modular, repeatable, and commercially validated.
Proven Traction
~$14K Monthly Revenue Per Container
Each container generates approximately $14,000 CAD in monthly revenue with 35–38% net margins, demonstrating strong unit economics from day one.
Validated by Pattison Food Group
Approved supplier to one of Canada's largest grocery groups, serving Save-On-Foods and Choices Market—30+ locations with consistent weekly sell-through.
1–2 Week Shelf Life vs. 2–3 Days
Our locally-grown basil maintains peak freshness up to 10× longer than imports, dramatically reducing waste and improving retailer margins.
Demand for 9 Additional Containers
Existing retail partners have validated demand for output from 9 containers. Second unit under construction with sales already committed.
What Makes Us Different
60% Less Energy Use
Proprietary climate and lighting systems reduce electricity costs compared to standard vertical farms, improving margins and enabling profitable replication.
95% Less Water Use
Closed-loop hydroponic systems recirculate water efficiently, reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
Retailer-Aligned Sales Model
Stores pay only for what sells, reducing their risk and aligning incentives. This model has enabled rapid adoption across 30+ locations.
Modular & Capital-Efficient
Each container is a repeatable unit with predictable yields and ~0.8× CAPEX-to-revenue scaling ratio, enabling efficient capital deployment.
Carbon Innovation Pipeline
Developing in-house CO₂ capture technology to further reduce operating costs and create carbon-negative production.
Expansion Vision
We are raising $1.5M to add 7 containers in Surrey, scaling to 9 total units to meet validated demand from existing retail partners.
Phase 1: Scale to Meet Current Demand
Add 7 containers to fulfill requests from existing Pattison Food Group locations. Demand is validated—retailers are requesting more product than we can currently supply.
Phase 2: Replicate Across BC
Deploy proven container model to strategic sites in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, leveraging established retail relationships and distribution infrastructure.
Phase 3: Expand Product Range
Introduce additional high-value herbs and leafy greens using the same modular system, increasing revenue per container and retailer value.
Each phase is driven by confirmed demand and repeatable unit economics, not speculation.
Our Impact
Sustainabite addresses structural inefficiencies in Canada's food system while building a scalable, profitable business:
Year-Round Local Supply
Eliminate dependence on imports and transportation disruptions by producing fresh herbs locally, regardless of season or climate.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
Eliminate thousands of food miles per shipment, significantly lowering the environmental cost of fresh herb distribution.
Scalable Employment Model
Each 2-container module requires approximately 1 skilled worker, creating efficient, urban agricultural jobs as we scale.
Superior Product Quality
Deliver fresher, nutrient-dense, pesticide-free produce with dramatically longer shelf life than imports.
Investment Opportunity
We are raising a $1.3M seed round to fund 7 additional containers, strengthen operations, and support working capital as we scale.
With proven unit economics (~$14K monthly revenue per container, 35–38% net margins), validated demand from major retailers, and a capital-efficient scaling model (~0.8× CAPEX-to-revenue ratio), Sustainabite offers a rare opportunity to invest in scalable, sustainable food infrastructure.
